1847-C NGC Quarter Eagle, $2.5 Gold Liberty AU 55 ** Collectible CHARLOTTE Date!

The $2.50 Gold Liberty was widely circulated as currency because of its small denomination throughout the United States. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, this coin’s design remained unchanged for 67 years. This is the longest lasting design in the history of American gold coinage. Lady Liberty faces left on the obverse surrounded by 13 small stars with the date below her. The American eagle clutches an olive branch and arrows in its talons on the reverse. After President Franklin Roosevelt required Americans to turn in their gold to be melted in the Great Depression, the coins drastically increased in rarity. Because of this, the $2.50 Gold Liberty is a unique addition to any collection.
