U.S. Gold, $20 Liberty Double Eagle PCGS MS 64 ** Random Dates

After the famous discovery of gold at Sutter’s Mill and the ongoing California gold rush, Congress authorized the mintage of the infamous $20 Double Eagle gold coin. These coins were designed by James B. Longacre. In its time, the Double Eagle had the highest gold content of any regular issue US gold coin. The Double Eagle was minted in what is known as the “Renaissance of American Coinage”. It features Lady Liberty on its obverse and the powerful bald eagle on its reverse.
