As with other coins in this era, the $2.50 and $5 Gold Indian was inspired by the input of President Theodore Roosevelt. The “sunken” relief sets these coins apart. The Boston Sculptor, Bela Lyon Pratt, used different techniques of depressing designs into the coins’ surface instead of raising them out of the face of the metal. These coins were minted from 1908-1929.
