Buying With Great Southern Coins

How can I buy coins from Great Southern Coins?

We give coin collectors a number of ways to make a purchase. You can:

  • Purchase coins that are for sale on our website.

  • Participate in one of our auctions to bid on a coin.

  • Purchase coins in person at our store.

How do I know the coin I'm buying is authentic?

Some coins are certified and authenticated by third party grading organizations. This is the best way to know that a coin bought online is authentic. Who you purchase from makes a huge difference in ensuring authenticity. At Great Southern Coins we've earned our reputation for honest dealings. Purchasing from an unknown individual is much riskier in terms of getting an authentic item, versus an established company like Great Southern Coins with a reputation to maintain in the industry.

How are coins shipped?

All items are securely shipped using USPS, UPS or FedEx. The package will have a tracking number as well as insurance that covers the full purchase price of the item(s). For enhanced security, we use packaging that is nondescript and adequately protects the item during transit.

Selling With Great Southern Coins

What type of coins will Great Southern Coins purchase?

We buy all types of coins! Rare coins, gold coins, commemorative coins, proof sets - we'll consider purchasing any coin. Contact us to let us know more and we can discuss the terms.

Will Great Southern Coins make a purchase without seeing a coin in person?

In some circumstances, yes. Sight unseen purchases are possible if your coin is certified by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) or the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). These organizations authenticate coins so that there's less risk for the purchaser.

How do you determine a purchase price for coins?

We use a variety of methods and consider a number of factors when pricing a coin. Some of the top considerations include:

  • If it's been certified by the PCGS or NGC.

  • The material composition.

  • The weight.

  • Its rarity.

  • The physical condition.

  • Recent sales/auction realized prices for the coin

  • Market value data, like Greysheets, CDNX, eBay sales history, and the CPG Market Review

Our experts also use data from the thousands of auctions that we've held to better understand the demand for a coin and its market value. If you would like to sell your coins, jewelry or precious metal items, visit our Sell to GSC page to learn more about the process.

Our customer service team can also schedule a time for you to come by our store if you are in the Boerne, San Antonio, or Texas Hill Country area. Our associates can provide all the details you need to start the process after evaluating your coins. We will show you all relevant data we use to establish an offer price for your rare coins or precious metals.
